What Is The Difference Between Rage and Anger?

Rage is an intense, often explosive emotion rooted in deep pain, unmet needs, or perceived injustice. Unlike surface-level anger, rage can feel overwhelming, primal, and difficult to control—it’s the emotional equivalent of fire, raw and consuming.


Rage vs. Anger

  • Anger: A natural emotion that arises when a boundary is crossed or a need is unmet.

  • Rage: A more intense and often suppressed form of anger, usually layered with deeper emotions like betrayal, grief, abandonment, or trauma.


Think of anger as a wave and rage as a tsunami—it builds quietly, often over time, until it erupts.


Core Origins of Rage

  • Abandonment or rejection

  • Chronic invalidation (not being heard or believed)

  • Injustice or betrayal

  • Powerlessness or silencing

  • Intergenerational trauma (ancestral rage passed down)

  • Suppressed expression (especially in childhood)


What Rage Tries to Tell You

Rage isn’t “bad.” It’s a sacred signal—a powerful force of energy pointing to:


  • Boundaries that need to be set or enforced

  • Truths that need to be spoken

  • Wounds that need to be acknowledged and healed

  • Power that needs to be reclaimed


Physical & Energetic Signs

  • Tension in the jaw, fists, or chest

  • Shaking, heat, or sudden outbursts

  • Racing heart, shallow breath

  • Restlessness, irritability, or explosive silence

  • Feeling like you’re not in control or like you might break


In energetic terms, rage often gets stored in the solar plexus (seat of personal power), the throat (truth expression), and the sacral chakra (emotions and creation).


Healing Rage

  • Acknowledge it: Don’t suppress or shame it—listen to it.

  • Move it: Dance, scream (safely), write, cry, punch a pillow—let it out.

  • Transform it: Channel that energy into something constructive—art, truth-telling, boundary-setting.

  • Soothe it: Use Reiki, grounding, breathwork, and support to calm your system after it’s been released.


Reiki and Shamanic healing are powerful tools for healing rage—not just calming it, but transforming it into strength, clarity, and wisdom. Rage often carries deep roots: unprocessed grief, injustice, betrayal, ancestral trauma, or soul loss. Instead of suppressing it, these practices help you honor it, clear it, and transmute it.


Here’s a guided approach you can use to work with rage using Reiki and Shamanic healing:


Step 1: Set Sacred Space

  • Light a candle or burn sage/copal.

  • Call in Reiki energy: “Reiki, flow through me now for the highest healing of the rage I carry.”

  • Call in your spirit guides, ancestors, power animals, and Archangel Metatron (if he’s part of your practice).


Step 2: Acknowledge the Rage


Rage is a messenger. Sit with it without judgment.


  • Ask it: “What do you need me to know?”

  • Journal what comes up—memories, sensations, names, images.


You can even say aloud:


“I honor the fire within me. I am willing to understand you, not fear you.”


Step 3: Shamanic Expression + Release


Let the rage move out of the body:

Step 4: Reiki for Transmutation


Now that the rage has been expressed, call in Reiki to transform the raw fire into healing energy.


  • Place hands on your solar plexus (power) and heart (compassion).

  • Use Cho Ku Rei for clearing and empowerment.

  • Use Sei He Ki for emotional harmony.

  • Visualize golden-white light flowing into these centers, softening and balancing the energy.

  • Sit or lie down. Imagine your rage transformed into a glowing ember—warm, steady, alive.

  • Thank your guides and the Reiki energy:

  • Close sacred space with drumming, a bell, or simply saying:


    “This session is complete. I return to the present grounded, empowered, and clear.”

  • Write your rage on paper and burn it safely.

  • Work with black tourmaline (release) and carnelian or citrine (empowered solar plexus).

  • Call in a power animal to help you work with rage constructively (often jaguar, bear, or hawk appear for this).

“I thank the Reiki energy, my guides, and all the spirits of healing for their support. I seal this space with love and gratitude. I am grounded, empowered, and whole.”
