Escapism is the tendency to escape from daily reality and routine by indulging in daydreaming, fantasy and entertainment. Escapism is the opposite of mindfulness. We avoid things that are beyond our acceptance and we blame our circumstances in order to overlook it. Escapism isn’t good or bad in itself. What is important is what you are escaping from and where you are escaping to. There are many reasons we use escapism as a survival mechanism, one major cause being trauma. It may be that for you, facing reality is simply too terrifying. This is the root of your anxiety, the fear of living as you are, becoming frightened of your existence. Escapism is an attempt to make your negative feelings dissipate, without working on them in a healthy, safe, productive manner. This only reinforces your anxiety and causes you to seek out new unhealthy, unproductive ways to cope. Ultimately, you will unravel, break down and fall to your knees. Learn how to sit with yourself to feel what you have to feel, thereby opening the gates of your heart to begin healing. You are not alone. Your soul is waiting for you. Let’s begin your transformative healing journey today ❤️
